THEN

Skin care is big business.  Everyday we’re bombarded by the skin industry to buy this, that and the other with promises to make us more beautiful, more attractive, more cebebrity like! There’s a moisturizer, a cleanser, a toner, a foundation, a treatment for probably every kind of skin you can think of.  There are many products on the market purporting to improve your skin from the outside and some which work from the inside,

Collagen is the substance in your body which works with keratin to give skin its elasticity, supports the body’s tissues and keeps you young looking.  As people age, however, collagen degradation occurs, leading to wrinkles. (pause)Tell me about it.

Pork skin
is a traditional Chinese cuisine and is very rich in collagen and gives you magic skin. Pork skin is like a salty jelly and, according to Xu, tastes refreshing.  Xu cooked some and brought it in. Try it!

Adlay Tea
Adlay tea contains protein amino acids which are good for anti-ageing of skin, lightening freckles and spots. (if you’d like to try some, just ask Hyemin)

Collagen Jelly
Collagen Jelly is absorbed directly into the body so you can see the effect almost immediately.  It’s made from the fish scales and bones of bream. Fish collagen is absorbed quicker than animal collagen. Collagen jelly contains lemon juice which has the added bonus of containing Vitamin C.  This makes collagen jelly simple and convenient and especially healthy.  You can add it to any food or recipe.

Hyemin has the recipe for those of you who would like it.

Red Dates and Tremella porridge
Tremella Mushroom, also called Silver Ear Mushroom is very popular in Chinese cuisine and is rich in dietary fibers and Vitamin D. iI helps retain the skin's natural moisture, hence its use in skin-care products as a good water-binding agent.
Chinese Dates or Red Dates is a good food supplement for the blood, and many people believe red dates are ideal as a tonic for women. There are many reports that women usually eating jujube (as they’re called) are much younger than other women.
Mix red dates with tremella together for the best natural skin care product and they taste
taste sweet and smooth.

Xu has made some of each for you to try.

Moving on.. Here are some items on the market we tried and tested ourselves:-

FACE MASKS (read the titles)
Each of us in Group 1 put masks on our faces using natural products READ THE TITLES to see if we could attain a more glowing complexion. PAUSE The jury’s out…

FISH PEDICURE
Amber went to face her phobia of fish by having a garra rufa fish pedicure at topshop. The idea of this pedicure is to eliminate dead skin that the fish readily eat. Amber supplied her feet as food for these fish which thrive off dead skin. Her comments were that the experience was “frightening but if you don't look down then it feels like a foot spa”

TATTOOS
Today, people choose to be tattooed for cosmetic, medical, sentimental/memorial, religious, and magical reasons, and to symbolize their belonging to, or identification with, particular groups. Tattooing can be used for permanent make-up such as eyebrows, lip liner, lipstick, eyeliner, to add beauty spots and hide or neutralise skin discolorations.
SKIN SCAN
I visited a skin rejuvenation centre in Harley Street to analyse hmyer skin to see how they could improve it or at least make me look younger.  First my face was scanned in a scanning machine which detects any damage.  This was followed by a free consultation in which they tried to sell their products.  I did manage to walk out without buying any of their products but if I want to part with £1300 I know where to go.

BURN/SKIN GRAFT/GROWING NEW SKIN
There’s currently a prolific amount of scientific and medical research going on into a means of producing artificial skin or growing skin in order to reduce healing times and scarring and pain for burn victims or acid attack victims like Katie Piper who I’m sure you all know about or those with skin diseases.  Victims have to endure many operations to transplant skin from unaffected other areas of their bodies to replace the damaged skin.   Real skin has already been grown in the laboratory and many substitutes and bio textiles are being produced in the same vein.  The skin, body care and cosmetic industries are watching these developments very carefully with a view to its application for their clients.

Suzanne Lee- Growing Textiles.

There is a current Trend in bio-textiles, mixing art and science. There are many examples of creating naturally occurring cloth, or clothing that filters the atmosphere around it. An example of growing textiles from bacteria is shown here from Suzanne Lee. Another example is Victimless Leather by Symbiotica, who grows seamless semi-living body suites."

Then the next big thing will be S.A.M.

Running order for Presi

Hi Guys,

The running order for the presentation, we can type the text into a word document to create a kind of script, have a run through and divide up the speaking parts and also work out how much time should be spent on each item to pace it well.

Hope this look OK and we can flesh it out tomorrow and start ticking things off!
